Management plans (what we intend to add):
The site is currently an arable desert on poorly draining soils adjacent to a heavily canalised stream. The site will be taken out of agricultural production transformed to a scrub grassland mosaic. The scrub will comprise mixed native species and will eventually mature and be managed to have different age categories with areas of open space within it. This structural diversity of the habitat will create ‘ecotones’ which is where maximum diversity of species (biodiversity) can be achieved. The grassland will contribute a smaller section of the site with proposals to create and enhance species rich meadows. There is a heavily canalised stream which runs alongside the site which has been subject to decades of dredging and nutrification. Enhancement to the stream channel, banks and bank tops will transform this hostile riparian zone to a living highway for wetland species to thrive.
